Joan of Arc at the Coronation of Charles VII in Reims Cathedral by Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres; 1854; Musée du Louvre, Paris, France; http://www.wga.hu

"May the whole world hear it and, just as it has come to admire the valiant acts in the defense of her country, may it perform, from now forward, the veneration towards her person like a most brilliant light of the Triumphant Church."
Pope Benedict XV, Cannonization of Joan of Arc, 1920

From the Latin Rite Breviary for May 30, Day of Saint Joan of Arc

I. This is Joan, a very pious and simple damsel, who feared the Lord very much and of whom, nobody ever said any evil word.

II. The Lord raised her up; contemplate the damsel dressed in the armor of God, so that it may bear the traps of the enemy.

III. Her sides are dressed with truth and covered with the laurels of justice. She took the shield and the helmet of salvation.

IV. Behold, she raised her hand to the people and showed all nations the miracles of the Lord, so as to in this manner achieve that the adversary flee. Alleluia!

V. The angel protected her and, when she traveled and she stopped, and she returned, as also in the midst of the fire, he never abandoned her. Alleluia! Amen

Prayer to Saint Joan of Arc for an Increase in Faith

In the face of your enemies, in the face of harassment, ridicule and doubt you held firm in your faith. Even when you were abondoned, alone and without friends, you held firm in your faith. Even as you faced your own mortality you held firm in your faith. I pray that I may be as bold in my belief as you, Saint Joan. I ask that you ride alongside me in my own battles. Help me be mindful that what is worthwhile can be won when I persist. Help me hold firm in my faith. Help me believe in my ability to act well and wisely. Amen

Prayer Composed by the Sisters of Saint Joan of Arc

O Saint Joan of Arc, couragous woman soldier, called by God to fight and save your country from the enemy; grant that I like you, may hear God's call in my life and have the courage to follow it faithfully, as priest, religious, married or single. May your motto: "My God must be first served," be mine also; so that through me, He may build His Kingdom here on earth.

Saint Joan of Arc, pray for us. Amen

Prayer for the Intercession of Saint Joan of Arc

Dear Sweet Patron Saint,
I implore you in the Name of God to intercede on my behalf and guide me. Help me to be strong when people are against me and question my belief in God. Help me to stand by my faith and my decisions concerning my faith. I wish to do only God's Will, and I beg of you, O Patron Saint, to help keep me on His true path, and guide me in His Holy Will. I need friends now, more than ever before, and I choose God as my first and foremost best friend, above all others. But I also choose you as a close and special friend to relate and talk to. Please counsel me by any means necessary that is in the Will of God to do.

I pray for an increase in the gifts of the Holy Spirit so that I may have the wisdom and understanding to receive His message and the patience and virtue to listen so that I may understand His Word. Amen

Joan of Arc in her father's garden; A Popular History of France from the Earliest Times, Vol. III by Francois Pierre Guillarme Guizot; http://www.gutenberg.org

"I was thirteen when I head a Voice from God for my help and guidance.

The first time that I heard this Voice, I was very much frightened; it was mid-day, in the summer, in my father’s garden. I had not fasted the day before. I heard this Voice to my right, towards the Church; rarely do I hear it without its being accompanied also by a light. This light comes from the same side as the Voice. Generally it is a great light. Since I came into France I have often heard this Voice.... If I were in a wood, I could easily hear the Voice which came to me. It seemed to me to come from lips I should reverence. I believe it was sent me from God. When I heard it for the third time, I recognized that it was the Voice of an Angel. This Voice has always guarded me well, and I have always understood it; it instructed me to be good and to go often to Church; it told me it was necessary for me to come into France.

You ask me under what form this Voice appeared to me? You will hear no more of it from me this time. It said to me two or three times a week: ‘You must go into France.’ My father knew nothing of my going. The Voice said to me: ‘Go into France !’ I could stay no longer. It said to me: ‘Go, raise the siege which is being made before the City of Orleans. Go !’ it added, ‘to Robert de Baudricourt, Captain of Vaucouleurs: he will furnish you with an escort to accompany you.’ And I replied that I was but a poor girl, who knew nothing of riding or fighting. I went to my uncle and said that I wished to stay near him for a time. I remained there eight days. I said to him, ‘I must go to Vaucouleurs.’ He took me there. When I arrived, I recognized Robert de Baudricourt, although I had never seen him. I knew him, thanks to my Voice, which made me recognize him.

OUR FATHER

Our Father, Who Art In Heaven
Hallowed Be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come,
Thy Will be done
On earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
Liberate us from all temptation[*]
And deliver us from all evil. Amen

[*] Liberate us is in keeping with the original Latin text.
       God usually does not "lead us" to temptation
       (unless we are tested),
       but gives us the grace to overcome and/or resist it

HAIL MARY

Hail Mary, full of grace
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art though among women,
And blessed is the fruit
Of thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mary of God
Pray for us sinners
Now, and in the hour
Of our death. Amen

APOSTLE'S CREED

I believe in God, the Father Almighty Creator of Heaven and earth;
And in Jesus Christ, His Only Son, our Lord;
Who was conceived by the
[work and grace of the] Holy Ghost,[*]
Born of the Virgin Mary,
Suffered under Pontius Pilate,
Was crucified, died and was buried.
He descended into the Dead.[**]
On the third day, He rose again;
He ascended into Heaven,
And sits at the right hand of God,
the Father Almighty.
From thence he shall come to judge
the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost,[*]
The Holy Catholic Church,
The communion of saints,
The forgiveness of sins.
The resurrection of the body,
And life everlasting. Amen

[*] Holy Ghost: may be substituted with the current Holy Spirit.
[**] the Dead: "inferi", the underworld or the dead in Latin.

GLORIA

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Ghost[*],
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and ever shall be, world without end.

DE PROFUNDIS

Out of the depths I have cried to Thee, O Lord:
Lord, hear my voice.
Let Thine ears be attentive
to the voice of my supplication.

If thou, O Lord, wilt mark iniquities:
Lord, who shall abide it.
For with Thee there is merciful forgiveness:
and because of Thy law,
I have waited for Thee, O Lord.

My soul hath waited on His word:
my soul hath hoped in the Lord.
From the morning-watch even until night,
let Israel hope in the Lord.

For with the Lord there is mercy:
and with Him plenteous redemption.
And He shall redeem Israel
from all her iniquities.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Ghost[*],
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen

[*] Holy Ghost: may be substituted with the current Holy Spirit.

Pope Leo XIII, February 3, 1888)

Let us pray:
O God, the Creator and Redeemer of all
the faithful, we beseech Thee to grant
to the souls of Thy servants the remission
of their sins, so that by our prayers
they may obtain pardon for which they long.
O Lord, who lives and reigns,

PADRE NUESTRO

Padre Nuestro,
que estas en los Cielos
Santificado sea Tu Nombre;
Venga a nosotros tu Reino;
Hágase Tu Voluntad
en la tierra como en el cielo.
Danos hoy nuestro pan de cada día;
Perdona nuestras ofensas,
Como también nosotros
perdonamos a los que nos ofenden,
No nos dejes caer en la tentación,
y líbranos del mal. Amén

CREDO

Creo en Dios, Padre Todopoderoso,
Creador del cielo y de la tierra.
Creo en Jesucristo,
Su único Hijo, Nuestro Señor,
Que fue concebido por obra
y gracia del Espíritu Santo,
Nació de la Santa María Virgen;

escucha mi voz;
Estén Tus oidos atentos
a la voz de mi súplica.

Si llevas cuenta de los delitos, Señor,
¿quién podrá resistir?
Pero de ti procede el perdón,
y así infundes respeto.
Mi alma espera en el Señor.

Espera en su palabra;
mi alma aguarda al Señor,
más que el centinela la aurora.
Aguarda Israel al Señor.

Como el centinela la aurora;
porque del Señor viene la misericordia.
la redención copiosa;
y Él redimirá a Israel de todos sus delitos.

Gloria al Padre, al Hijo y al
Espíritu Santo,
como es desde el principio,
es ahora y será por los siglos de los siglos.
Amén
