DISPOSITIONS

What must the Christian procure so as to pray the Triduum for the advantage of his or her soul? It would be the primary disposition in a good act of contrition, and if possible, a good confession.

Mary, as our Most Holy Mother and Refuge of sinners, is a truth taught by Holy Church. There is also another lesser known truth, yet no less authorized, and it is that all sinners who wish to experience in life and in death the Church's powerful benefit, protection and patronage in the presence of God, are to resolve as soon as it is possible for them, to have a truly contrite and humble heart.

Act of Contrition

My Lord, Jesus Christ, True God and True Man, My Creator, Father and Redeemer, in whom I believe, in whom I wait [hope] for, to whom I love more than my own soul, more than my own life and more than all things: for being who You are, and by your infinite goodness, it weighs profoundly on my heart having offended you. I firmly propose to never sin again, to distance myself from all ocassions to offend you; to confess and to fulfill my penitence that be imposed on me. I offer You, Lord, my life, my works and my labors in satisfaction for all my sins. And, as I now plead to You, I so confide in your infinite divine goodness and mercy so as to forgive me, by the merits of Your most precious Blood, Passion and Death, so as to give me the grace to mend my life and to persevere in Your holy service until the hour of my death. Amen.

BEGINNING PRAYER FOR ALL 3 DAYS

Sovereign Virgin Mary, Mother of God and my Mother, here you have postrate before your most sacred feet this your prodigious son, penetrated in confusion, pain and repentance for having sinned against Heaven and You: I know, Lady, and confess in the presence of Heaven and earth, that I am not worthy of honoring myself with the title of your son [daughter]. Receive, Mother of Mercy, this humble confession of my ugly ingratitude, and bad correspondence, dispensing the grace to admit me into the number of your servants: look upon me with eyes of piety, as you do with your servants; and reach for me from the All-Powerful the grace that I ask you in this Holy Triduum, which is that, starting from now onward, recognizing all the mistakes and my straying, I cry with bitter tears for all my wrongs, and to implore the Divine Mercies to correct the steps of my life in such a way that I may achieve, through your powerful intercession, a precious death so I may enjoy total bliss from God in your company for all glorious eternity. Amen.

Here you pray three Hail Marys

PRAYER FOR THE THIRD DAY

PERSEVERANCE

Qui perseveraverit usque in finem, hic salvus erit.   (Saint Matthew, 10:22)

The one who perseveres until the end, will save himself.

Omnipotent God, most generous renumerator, who conducts to the port of salvation all the souls that persevere in the observance of Your Divine Commandments up to the end of their journey in this mortal life; and at the same time, who assures us that the soul that puts its hand on the plow and goes back is not doing so for the purpose of the Kingdom of the Heavens: I supplicate to You, Lord, by the intercession of Mary Most Holy, whose perseverance in all type of virtue up until the last moment of her precious life have renumerated her with a gift of unspeakable Glory, may grant me the grace to fix my steps in the observance of Your Divine Law. Confirm me, Lord, in my purpose and resolutions that I have formulated in this Holy Triduum, which are: to live from now animated with a lively faith, with a firm hope, with an ardent charity, with a true humility, with a purity and chastity in conformance with the state of life I am at in this present moment, or to the state that Your Divine Providence will for me; with an inalterable patience, with a poverty of spirit that detaches from my heart all the temporal goods of this earth; and I aspire unceasingly for the possession of my eternal blessed state. Dispense in me, Lord, the mercy so that I persevere in imitation of my Mother and Lady Mary Most Holy, in the exercise of these and the other virtues, until I exhale the last breath of my life, so that, delivering my spirit in Your hands, in the hands of my beloved Jesus and Mary, my venerated Mother and Lady, I pass and go to see You, delight in You, praise and bless You eternally, in Your Glory. Amen.

CLOSING PRAYER FOR EACH DAY

God of goodness, in Whom I live, in Whom I move, and in Whom I have the being I delight in: which, by an effect of Your infinite mercy You have resolved to imprint Your divine Word; You who do not want the eternal death of the sinner but rather, that he or she convert to You so as to live eternally in Your friendship and grace: I supplicate to You, Lord, by your goodness, by Your life, Death and Passion of My redeemer Jesus Christ, and, by the merits of Your Mother Mary Most Holy, elevated to the Heavens body and soul, that you give me the grace to convert myself to You within my whole heart, with all my soul and with all the strengths of my life. May I live, Lord, from now on, to love You; move me to serve You and to employ everything I am and I have so as to obey You; do not permit, Lord, that my eyes be opened unless they are used to see You; that my ears not be employed unless they are to hear You; that my tongue have no other exercise but to praise and bless You; may not my steps be directed to anything other than to find You. In the end, Lord, within me, bring me Your mercy so that my soul and body detest and abhor above all the eternal death of sin and instead long incessantly for the life or Your friendship and grace, so as to bless and praise Your mercies eternally, in Glory. Amen.

ANTIFONA

Hodie Maria Virgo cælos ascendit, gaudete quia cum Christo regnat in æternum.

1. Exaltata est Sancta Dei genitrix.
2. Super Choros Angelorum ad cælestia Regna.

OREMUS

Famulorum tuorum quaesumus Domine delictis ignosce, ut qui tibi placere de actibus nostris non valemus, Genitricis Filii tui Domini nostri intercessione salvemur.

Blessed and praised by the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar.

May Jesus in the Most Holy Sacrament be blessed and praised forever.

OUR FATHER

Our Father, Who Art In Heaven
Hallowed Be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come,
Thy Will be done
On earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
Liberate us from all temptation[*]
And deliver us from all evil. Amen

[*] Liberate us is in keeping with the original Latin text.
       God usually does not "lead us" to temptation
       (unless we are tested),
       but gives us the grace to overcome and/or resist it
X
HAIL MARY

Hail Mary, full of grace
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art though among women,
And blessed is the fruit
Of thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mary of God
Pray for us sinners
Now, and in the hour
Of our death. Amen

X
APOSTLE'S CREED

I believe in God, the Father Almighty Creator of Heaven and earth;
And in Jesus Christ, His Only Son, our Lord;
Who was conceived by the
[work and grace of the] Holy Ghost,[*]
Born of the Virgin Mary,
Suffered under Pontius Pilate,
Was crucified, died and was buried.
He descended into the Dead.[**]
On the third day, He rose again;
He ascended into Heaven,
And sits at the right hand of God,
the Father Almighty.
From thence he shall come to judge
the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost,[*]
The Holy Catholic Church,
The communion of saints,
The forgiveness of sins.
The resurrection of the body,
And life everlasting. Amen

[*] Holy Ghost: may be substituted with the current Holy Spirit.
[**] the Dead: "inferi", the underworld or the dead in Latin.

GLORIA

and to the Holy Ghost[*],

DE PROFUNDIS

Out of the depths I have cried to Thee, O Lord:
Lord, hear my voice.
Let Thine ears be attentive
to the voice of my supplication.

If thou, O Lord, wilt mark iniquities:
Lord, who shall abide it.
For with Thee there is merciful forgiveness:
and because of Thy law,
I have waited for Thee, O Lord.

My soul hath waited on His word:
my soul hath hoped in the Lord.
From the morning-watch even until night,
let Israel hope in the Lord.

For with the Lord there is mercy:
and with Him plenteous redemption.
And He shall redeem Israel
from all her iniquities.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Ghost[*],
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen

[*] Holy Ghost: may be substituted with the current Holy Spirit.

Let us pray:
O God, the Creator and Redeemer of all
the faithful, we beseech Thee to grant

PADRE NUESTRO

Padre Nuestro,
que estas en los Cielos
Santificado sea Tu Nombre;
Venga a nosotros tu Reino;
Hágase Tu Voluntad
en la tierra como en el cielo.
Danos hoy nuestro pan de cada día;
Perdona nuestras ofensas,
Como también nosotros
perdonamos a los que nos ofenden,
No nos dejes caer en la tentación,
y líbranos del mal. Amén

AVE MARÍA

Dios te salve, María,
llena eres de gracia;
El Señor es Contigo;
Bendita Tú eres
entre todas las mujeres,
Y bendito es el fruto
De tu vientre, Jesús.

Santa María,
Madre de Dios,
Ruega por nosotros
pecadores,
Ahora y en la hora
De nuestra muerte.

CREDO

Creo en Dios, Padre Todopoderoso,
Creador del cielo y de la tierra.
Creo en Jesucristo,
Su único Hijo, Nuestro Señor,
Que fue concebido por obra
y gracia del Espíritu Santo,
Nació de la Santa María Virgen;

escucha mi voz;
Estén Tus oidos atentos
a la voz de mi súplica.

Si llevas cuenta de los delitos, Señor,
¿quién podrá resistir?
Pero de ti procede el perdón,
y así infundes respeto.
Mi alma espera en el Señor.

Espera en su palabra;
mi alma aguarda al Señor,
más que el centinela la aurora.
Aguarda Israel al Señor.

Como el centinela la aurora;
porque del Señor viene la misericordia.
la redención copiosa;
y Él redimirá a Israel de todos sus delitos.

Gloria al Padre, al Hijo y al
Espíritu Santo,
como es desde el principio,
es ahora y será por los siglos de los siglos.
Amén
