You gave me Your designs of peace and not affliction
From the book of the Insinuations of Divine Piety by Saint Gertrude, virgin

May my soul bless You, God and Lord, my Creator, may my soul bless You and, from the most intimate recesses of my being, may my soul praise You for Your mercies, with which I have undeservedly been blessed, overwhelmingly filled with Your goodness.

I give You thanks with my whole heart for Your immense mercy and support; at the same time, I recognize Your patient goodness, which I put to the test during my infancy and childhood, my adolescence and youth, up to the age of nearly twenty-six, as I spent all that time obfuscated and somewhat demented; thinking, speaking and working, whenever I could, according to what I felt like doing - now I realize this! - without any remorse of conscience, without taking You into account; letting myself be carried away by nothing more than my natural despisement for evil and attraction for what is good; or, by the warnings of those surrounding me, as if I were a pagan among pagans.

All this I lived as if I had never understood that You, my God, rewards good and punishes evil; and all this in spite of the fact that from my infancy, from the age of 5, You chose me to become part of Your intimate ones in the religious life.

For all of this, I offer You, in reparation, most loving Father, all that Your beloved Son suffered, from the moment that He began to cry, reclined on the hay in the manger; passing later on through the demands of infancy, the limitations of puberty, the difficulties of adolescence ... the youthful impetus: all until the hour in which, inclining His head, He surrendered His spirit on the Cross, letting out a loud cry.

I also offer You, most loving Father, so as to make up for all my negligences, the absolute sanctity and perfection with which Your Only-begotten Son thought, spoke and worked, from the moment in which, sent down from the Celestial Throne, He made His entrance into this world, up to the moment in which He presented Himself, before Your paternal glance, with the glory of His triumphant humanity.

Full of gratitude, I submerge myself into the most profound abyss of my smallness and I praise and adore - together with Your mercy which is above all - that sweetest benignity with which You, Father of Mercy, have for me; I, who lived so waywardly; You gave me Your designs of peace and not affliction. Said another way: the manner in how You lifted me up with the multitude and magnitude of Your benefits, showed me that You were not content with only all this; You also bestowed upon me the inestimable gift of Your friendship and kinship, opening up for me the most noble Ark of Divinity: Your divine Heart, in which I find all of my sweetest delights.

Even more, You drew my soul to Yourself with such promises, referring to the benefits You want to grant me at my death and after my death; such are these that, even if they were the only gifts I received from You, would be all-sufficient for my heart to yearn for You constantly, with a hope that is most deeply and completely, alive.

PRAYER
O God, who made the heart of Your virgin Saint Gertrude, by her prayers and merits, a joyful abode for You, illuminate the darkness in our own hearts, and grant that we joyfully experience Your presence and actions in us, and between us. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You in the Unity of the Holy Spirit and is God, for ever and ever. Amen

OUR FATHER

Our Father, Who Art In Heaven
Hallowed Be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come,
Thy Will be done
On earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
Liberate us from all temptation[*]
And deliver us from all evil. Amen

[*] Liberate us is in keeping with the original Latin text.
       God usually does not "lead us" to temptation
       (unless we are tested),
       but gives us the grace to overcome and/or resist it

HAIL MARY

Hail Mary, full of grace
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art though among women,
And blessed is the fruit
Of thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mary of God
Pray for us sinners
Now, and in the hour
Of our death. Amen

APOSTLE'S CREED

I believe in God, the Father Almighty Creator of Heaven and earth;
And in Jesus Christ, His Only Son, our Lord;
Who was conceived by the
[work and grace of the] Holy Ghost,[*]
Born of the Virgin Mary,
Suffered under Pontius Pilate,
Was crucified, died and was buried.
He descended into the Dead.[**]
On the third day, He rose again;
He ascended into Heaven,
And sits at the right hand of God,
the Father Almighty.
From thence he shall come to judge
the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost,[*]
The Holy Catholic Church,
The communion of saints,
The forgiveness of sins.
The resurrection of the body,
And life everlasting. Amen

[*] Holy Ghost: may be substituted with the current Holy Spirit.
[**] the Dead: "inferi", the underworld or the dead in Latin.

GLORIA

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Ghost[*],

DE PROFUNDIS

Out of the depths I have cried to Thee, O Lord:
Lord, hear my voice.
Let Thine ears be attentive
to the voice of my supplication.

If thou, O Lord, wilt mark iniquities:
Lord, who shall abide it.
For with Thee there is merciful forgiveness:
and because of Thy law,
I have waited for Thee, O Lord.

My soul hath waited on His word:
my soul hath hoped in the Lord.
From the morning-watch even until night,
let Israel hope in the Lord.

For with the Lord there is mercy:
and with Him plenteous redemption.
And He shall redeem Israel
from all her iniquities.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Ghost[*],
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen

[*] Holy Ghost: may be substituted with the current Holy Spirit.

Let us pray:
O God, the Creator and Redeemer of all
the faithful, we beseech Thee to grant
to the souls of Thy servants the remission
of their sins, so that by our prayers
they may obtain pardon for which they long.
O Lord, who lives and reigns,

PADRE NUESTRO

Padre Nuestro,
que estas en los Cielos
Santificado sea Tu Nombre;
Venga a nosotros tu Reino;
Hágase Tu Voluntad
en la tierra como en el cielo.
Danos hoy nuestro pan de cada día;
Perdona nuestras ofensas,
Como también nosotros
perdonamos a los que nos ofenden,
No nos dejes caer en la tentación,
y líbranos del mal. Amén

AVE MARÍA

Dios te salve, María,
llena eres de gracia;
El Señor es Contigo;
Bendita Tú eres
entre todas las mujeres,
Y bendito es el fruto
De tu vientre, Jesús.

Santa María,
Madre de Dios,
Ruega por nosotros
pecadores,
Ahora y en la hora
De nuestra muerte.

CREDO

Creo en Dios, Padre Todopoderoso,
Creador del cielo y de la tierra.
Creo en Jesucristo,
Su único Hijo, Nuestro Señor,
Que fue concebido por obra
y gracia del Espíritu Santo,
Nació de la Santa María Virgen;

escucha mi voz;
Estén Tus oidos atentos
a la voz de mi súplica.

Si llevas cuenta de los delitos, Señor,
¿quién podrá resistir?
Pero de ti procede el perdón,
y así infundes respeto.
Mi alma espera en el Señor.

Espera en su palabra;
mi alma aguarda al Señor,
más que el centinela la aurora.
Aguarda Israel al Señor.

Como el centinela la aurora;
porque del Señor viene la misericordia.
la redención copiosa;
y Él redimirá a Israel de todos sus delitos.

Gloria al Padre, al Hijo y al
Espíritu Santo,
como es desde el principio,
es ahora y será por los siglos de los siglos.
Amén
