When Christ comes, God will be seen by men
From a Treatise Against Heresies, by Saint Irenaeus (130-202), Bishop
(Lib 4, 20, 4-5: SC 100, 634-640)

There is but One God, who made and ordered everthing by means of the Word and Wisdom: this is the same Demiurge that assigned this world to the human race. He, in His greatness, has not been known by those same creatures that He created (since nobody had investigated His depth of being, neither among the ancient ones who have passed away, nor among those who still live); in contrast, because of Love, we know the One who, through His ministry, made all things. This is His Word, our Lord Jesus Christ, the One who in recent times made Himself man among men, with the end to unite the End with the Beginning, that is to say, man with God. And for this motive the prophets, having received from that same Word the gift of prophecy, predicated His coming in the flesh, through which is realized the co-mingling and communion of God with man according to the desires of God. The Word had preannounced from the beginning that we would get to see God among men, that He would enter into contact with those on the earth and converse with them, that He would be made present to His created being (mankind) so as to save it, and that He would show Himself sensitive to free the hands of all those who hate us, the rebellious spirits. And He would also propel us to serve Him in sanctity and justice all our days with the end that, with mankind embracing the Spirit of God, mankind could then enter into the glory of the Father.

This is what the Prophets said in their announcements, yet, as some say, the prophets saw someone distinct from God the Father, because He remains invisible. They teach this to those who entirely ignore whatever may be contained in prophecy. Because prophey is the prediction of future things, meaning, the preannouncement of things that only afterwards become real. The prophets pre-foretold that men would see God, as the Lord says: "Blessed are the clean of heart, because they will see God" (St. Matthew 5, 8). Even though, in truth, "Nobody will see God and live" (Exodus 33, 20), when one sees Him in all his grandieur and ineffable glory, as the Father is inaccessible. However, by His love, goodness and omnipotence, He will concede for all of those who love Him, the priviledge to see God, as the prophets announced, because "what for men is impossible, it is possible for God" (St. Luke, 18, 27).

Man will not see God on his own; yet He, God, if He so wants, will allow Himself to be seen by men; for those that He wants, and when and how He wants, because God is omnipontent. Through means of the Holy Spirit He permitted Himself to be seen prophetically. Through the means of His Son He let Himself be seen according to adoption; He will let Himself be seen according to His paternity in the Kingdom of the Heavens: the Holy Spirit prepares man and woman for the Son of God, the Son who conducts one to the Father; the Father grants the Incorruption towards and for eternal life, which comes with each and every person's vision of God. As the ones who see the light are in the light, they perceive that divine light's clarity; in such a manner those who come to God are in God and see His clarity. And the clarity of God gives life: meaning, those who see God have a part in life. That is why the One who cannot be embraced, comprehended nor seen, grants to human beings that they see Him, they comprehend Him and embrace Him, with the goal of giving them life. Just as His grandness is unfathomable, so also is His goodness ineffable, by which He gives life to those who see Him. This is because living without having life is impossible; life comes by participating in God, and participating in God is seeing Him and enjoying the bliss of His goodness.

OUR FATHER

Our Father, Who Art In Heaven
Hallowed Be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come,
Thy Will be done
On earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
Liberate us from all temptation[*]
And deliver us from all evil. Amen

[*] Liberate us is in keeping with the original Latin text.
       God usually does not "lead us" to temptation
       (unless we are tested),
       but gives us the grace to overcome and/or resist it

HAIL MARY

Hail Mary, full of grace
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art though among women,
And blessed is the fruit
Of thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mary of God
Pray for us sinners
Now, and in the hour
Of our death. Amen

APOSTLE'S CREED

I believe in God, the Father Almighty Creator of Heaven and earth;
And in Jesus Christ, His Only Son, our Lord;
Who was conceived by the
[work and grace of the] Holy Ghost,[*]
Born of the Virgin Mary,
Suffered under Pontius Pilate,
Was crucified, died and was buried.
He descended into the Dead.[**]
On the third day, He rose again;
He ascended into Heaven,
And sits at the right hand of God,
the Father Almighty.
From thence he shall come to judge
the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost,[*]
The Holy Catholic Church,
The communion of saints,
The forgiveness of sins.
The resurrection of the body,
And life everlasting. Amen

[*] Holy Ghost: may be substituted with the current Holy Spirit.
[**] the Dead: "inferi", the underworld or the dead in Latin.

GLORIA

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Ghost[*],
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen

DE PROFUNDIS

Out of the depths I have cried to Thee, O Lord:
Lord, hear my voice.
Let Thine ears be attentive
to the voice of my supplication.

If thou, O Lord, wilt mark iniquities:
Lord, who shall abide it.
For with Thee there is merciful forgiveness:
and because of Thy law,
I have waited for Thee, O Lord.

My soul hath waited on His word:
my soul hath hoped in the Lord.
From the morning-watch even until night,
let Israel hope in the Lord.

For with the Lord there is mercy:
and with Him plenteous redemption.
And He shall redeem Israel
from all her iniquities.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Ghost[*],
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen

[*] Holy Ghost: may be substituted with the current Holy Spirit.

"Requiem aeternam" (Eternal Rest) three times a day.
Pope Leo XIII, February 3, 1888)

Let us pray:
O God, the Creator and Redeemer of all
the faithful, we beseech Thee to grant
to the souls of Thy servants the remission
of their sins, so that by our prayers
they may obtain pardon for which they long.
O Lord, who lives and reigns,
world without end. Amen

May they rest in peace. Amen

PADRE NUESTRO

Padre Nuestro,
que estas en los Cielos
Santificado sea Tu Nombre;
Venga a nosotros tu Reino;
Hágase Tu Voluntad
en la tierra como en el cielo.
Danos hoy nuestro pan de cada día;
Perdona nuestras ofensas,
Como también nosotros
perdonamos a los que nos ofenden,
No nos dejes caer en la tentación,
y líbranos del mal. Amén

Dios te salve, María,
llena eres de gracia;
El Señor es Contigo;
Bendita Tú eres
entre todas las mujeres,
Y bendito es el fruto
De tu vientre, Jesús.

Santa María,
Madre de Dios,
Ruega por nosotros
pecadores,
Ahora y en la hora
De nuestra muerte.

CREDO

Creo en Dios, Padre Todopoderoso,
Creador del cielo y de la tierra.
Creo en Jesucristo,
Su único Hijo, Nuestro Señor,
Que fue concebido por obra
y gracia del Espíritu Santo,
Nació de la Santa María Virgen;

escucha mi voz;
Estén Tus oidos atentos
a la voz de mi súplica.

Si llevas cuenta de los delitos, Señor,
¿quién podrá resistir?
Pero de ti procede el perdón,
y así infundes respeto.
Mi alma espera en el Señor.

Espera en su palabra;
mi alma aguarda al Señor,
más que el centinela la aurora.
Aguarda Israel al Señor.

Como el centinela la aurora;
porque del Señor viene la misericordia.
la redención copiosa;
y Él redimirá a Israel de todos sus delitos.

Gloria al Padre, al Hijo y al
Espíritu Santo,
como es desde el principio,
es ahora y será por los siglos de los siglos.
Amén
