I have worked always with Love
From the Spiritual Testament by Saint John Bosco, priest
(Epistolario, Torino 1959, 4, 201-203)

If we truly look for the authentic happiness of our students and we want to inspire them to fulfill their obligations, it is convenient before anything else that we never forget that you are fulfilling the roles of the parents of our beloved young ones, for whom I have worked always with love, for whom I studied and exerted my priestly ministry, and not only I, but also the entire Salesian Congregation.

How many times, my children, during my life, already so prolonged, I have had the occasion to convince myself of this great truth! It is easier to get upset than to endure, to threaten the child rather than persuade him; I will even add that, due to our impatience and arrogance, it is more convenient to punish the rebellious ones than to correct them, supporting them with firmness and kindness at the same time.

I recommend that you imitate the charity that Paul used with the neophytes, charity that with frequency moved them to spill tears and to plead, when he found them lacking docility and rebelling to his love.

Guard that no one may think that you can be carried away by any fits of your own spirit. It is difficult when punishing to conserve the required moderation, which is needed so that nobody feels the doubt arise inside that we operate only so as to have our own authority prevail or to release our bad humour.

Let us look at these sons like those over which we must exercise some authority. Let us please ourselves at their service, in imitation of Jesus, who came to obey and not command; and, let us be embarrased of all that could even have but the apperance of dominance; if we do exercise any dominion over them, it is so as to serve them better.

This was the way Jesus operated with the apostles, as He was patient with them, even though they were ignorant and rude, and even not very faithful. With sinners His comportment was also with benignity and with an air of friendly familiarity, in such a way that He was the motive of admiration for some, and scandal for others; yet also this served as an occasion for many to conceive within them the hope of reaching the pardon of God. For this reason He commanded us to be meek and humble of heart.

They are our sons and so, for this reason, when we correct their errors, we are to put down in our glance all ire or, at the very least, dominate our ire in such a manner as if we had completely extinguished it.

Let us maintain our spirit serenely, avoiding any disdain or scorn in our glance, or hurting words; let us have comprehension in the present moment and hope in the future, as it is convenient for true parents, who are to be sincerely preoccupied in the correction and mending of their children.

In the more serious cases, it is better to plead to God with humility than to thrust a torrent of words, since these offend those who hear them, without serving any advantage to those that are culpable.

PRAYER

Our Lord God, who has given to the Church, in the prebyster Saint John Bosco, a father and teacher of youth, grant that, moved by a love similar to his, we can deliver ourselves to Your service, working for the salvation of our brothers. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit and is God, for ever and ever. Amen

OUR FATHER

Our Father, Who Art In Heaven
Hallowed Be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come,
Thy Will be done
On earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
Liberate us from all temptation[*]
And deliver us from all evil. Amen

[*] Liberate us is in keeping with the original Latin text.
       God usually does not "lead us" to temptation
       (unless we are tested),
       but gives us the grace to overcome and/or resist it

HAIL MARY

Hail Mary, full of grace
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art though among women,
And blessed is the fruit
Of thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mary of God
Pray for us sinners
Now, and in the hour
Of our death. Amen

APOSTLE'S CREED

I believe in God, the Father Almighty Creator of Heaven and earth;
And in Jesus Christ, His Only Son, our Lord;
Who was conceived by the
[work and grace of the] Holy Ghost,[*]
Born of the Virgin Mary,
Suffered under Pontius Pilate,
Was crucified, died and was buried.
He descended into the Dead.[**]
On the third day, He rose again;
He ascended into Heaven,
And sits at the right hand of God,
the Father Almighty.
From thence he shall come to judge
the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost,[*]
The Holy Catholic Church,
The communion of saints,
The forgiveness of sins.
The resurrection of the body,
And life everlasting. Amen

[*] Holy Ghost: may be substituted with the current Holy Spirit.
[**] the Dead: "inferi", the underworld or the dead in Latin.
X
GLORIA

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Ghost[*],
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen

DE PROFUNDIS

Out of the depths I have cried to Thee, O Lord:
Lord, hear my voice.
Let Thine ears be attentive
to the voice of my supplication.

If thou, O Lord, wilt mark iniquities:
Lord, who shall abide it.
For with Thee there is merciful forgiveness:
and because of Thy law,
I have waited for Thee, O Lord.

My soul hath waited on His word:
my soul hath hoped in the Lord.
From the morning-watch even until night,
let Israel hope in the Lord.

For with the Lord there is mercy:
and with Him plenteous redemption.
And He shall redeem Israel
from all her iniquities.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Ghost[*],
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen

[*] Holy Ghost: may be substituted with the current Holy Spirit.

Pope Leo XIII, February 3, 1888)

Let us pray:
O God, the Creator and Redeemer of all
the faithful, we beseech Thee to grant
to the souls of Thy servants the remission
of their sins, so that by our prayers
they may obtain pardon for which they long.
O Lord, who lives and reigns,
world without end. Amen

PADRE NUESTRO

Padre Nuestro,
que estas en los Cielos
Santificado sea Tu Nombre;
Venga a nosotros tu Reino;
Hágase Tu Voluntad
en la tierra como en el cielo.
Danos hoy nuestro pan de cada día;
Perdona nuestras ofensas,
Como también nosotros
perdonamos a los que nos ofenden,
No nos dejes caer en la tentación,
y líbranos del mal. Amén

AVE MARÍA

Dios te salve, María,
llena eres de gracia;
El Señor es Contigo;
Bendita Tú eres
entre todas las mujeres,
Y bendito es el fruto
De tu vientre, Jesús.

Santa María,
Madre de Dios,
Ruega por nosotros
pecadores,
Ahora y en la hora
De nuestra muerte.
Amén

CREDO

Creo en Dios, Padre Todopoderoso,
Creador del cielo y de la tierra.
Creo en Jesucristo,
Su único Hijo, Nuestro Señor,
Que fue concebido por obra
y gracia del Espíritu Santo,
Nació de la Santa María Virgen;

escucha mi voz;
Estén Tus oidos atentos
a la voz de mi súplica.

Si llevas cuenta de los delitos, Señor,
¿quién podrá resistir?
Pero de ti procede el perdón,
y así infundes respeto.
Mi alma espera en el Señor.

Espera en su palabra;
mi alma aguarda al Señor,
más que el centinela la aurora.
Aguarda Israel al Señor.

Como el centinela la aurora;
porque del Señor viene la misericordia.
la redención copiosa;
y Él redimirá a Israel de todos sus delitos.

Gloria al Padre, al Hijo y al
Espíritu Santo,
como es desde el principio,
es ahora y será por los siglos de los siglos.
Amén
