PREPARATORY PRAYER

By the sign of the Holy Cross, My Lord Jesus Christ

O most glorious Father of Jesus, Spouse of Mary, Patriarch and Protector of Holy Church, to whom the Eternal Father confided the care of governing, regulating and defending on earth the Sacred Family: protect us also who belong, as faithful Catholics, to the holy family of your Son which is the Church, and reach for us the needed goods of this life, and above all the spiritual auxiliums for eternal life. Especially, reach for us these three graces: to never commit any mortal sin, principallly against chastity; to have a sincere love and devotion to Jesus and Mary; and to attain a good death, receiving properly and well the last Sacraments. Grant us also the special grace that we ask you with this Novena.

(Ask now with fervor and confidence the grace you wish to obtain. Then pray the prayer for the corresponding day)

DAY I (Begin with the Preparatory Prayer for all days.)

O most benign Jesus, just like you consoled your beloved father during the perplexities and incertitudes he experienced, when he considered abandoning your Most Holy Mother his spouse; in this way we humbly plead, by the intercession of Saint Joseph, that he grant us much prudence and the wise choices in all the doubtful and anguishing cases of our life, so that we always make the right moves, under Your most holy will.

(End with the Final Prayer for all days.)

DAY II (Begin with the Preparatory Prayer for all days.)

O most benign Jesus, just like you consoled your beloved father in the poverty and helplessness of Bethlehem with your birth and with the canticles of the Angels and visits of the shepherds; in this way we also humbly plead for the intercession of Saint Joseph that he grant us the ability to carry with patience our own poverty and helplessness in this life, and that You gladden our spirit with Your presence and Your grace, together with the Holy Hope of Eternal Glory.

(End with the Final Prayer for all days.)

DAY III (Begin with the Preparatory Prayer for all days.)

O most benign Jesus, just like you consoled your beloved father in the dolorous mystery of the Circumcision, receiving from him the sweet the name of Jesus; in this way we also humbly plead, by the intercession of Saint Joseph, that You grant us the ability to pronounce with love and respect your Most Holy Name, carrying it in our hearts, honoring it in life, and professing with works and deeds that You were our Savior and our belove Jesus.

(End with the Final Prayer for all days.)

DAY IV (Begin with the Preparatory Prayer for all days.)

O most benign Jesus, just like You consoled your beloved father from the pain that the prophecy of Simeon caused him by showing him the innumerable choir of all the Saints; in this way we also humbly plead, by the intercession of Saint Joseph, that You grant us the grace to be those for whom You serve; not for ruin but for resurrection, and that we faithfully reciprocate Your grace so that we all go forward to Your glory.

(End with the Final Prayer for all days.)

DAY V (Begin with the Preparatory Prayer for all days.)

O most benign Jesus, just like Your beloved father took You from Bethlehelm to Egypt so as to free You from the tyrant Herod; in this way we also humbly plead, by the intercession of Saint Joseph, that You free us from those who want to harm our souls or our bodies; that You give us fortitude and salvation in our persecutions and that, in the midst of our exile in this life, You protect us, until we return to our Celestial Motherland.

(End with the Final Prayer for all days.)

DAY VI (Begin with the Preparatory Prayer for all days.)

O most benign Jesus, just as Your beloved father sustained You in Nazareth, and in exchange You rewarded him with Your most holy company for so many years, with Your doctrine and Your sweet conversation; in this same way we humbly plead, by the intercession of Saint Joseph, that You grant us the spiritual sustenance of Your grace, and of Your Holy Communion, and that we live saintly and modestly, like You did, in Nazareth.

(End with the Final Prayer for all days.)

DAY VII (Begin with the Preparatory Prayer for all days.)

O most benign Jesus, just as, for the sake of following the will of Your celestial Father, You allowed Your beloved father on earth to suffer the most vehement pain of losing You during three long days; so we humbly plead, by the intercession of Saint Joseph, that we may first want to lose all things and displease any friend who ceases to do Your will, than to ever lose You by mortal sin, or to otherwise lose You by any other disgrace. May we find You once again within, by means of a good confession.

(End with the Final Prayer for all days.)

DAY VIII (Begin with the Preparatory Prayer for all days.)

O most benign Jesus, who in the hour of his death You consoled Your glorious father, assisting together with Your Mother his spouse in his last agony; we humbly plead, through the intercession of Saint Joseph, that You grant us a death similar to his, assisted by Your goodness, that of Your most Holy Mother and of the same glorious Patriarch, protector of the dying, pronouncing when dying Your most Holy Names: Jesus, Mary and Joseph.

(End with the Final Prayer for all days.)

DAY IX (Begin with the Preparatory Prayer for all days.)

O most benign Jesus, just as You have chosen through your Vicar on earth Your beloved father as the protector of Your Holy Catholic Church; in this same way we humbly plead through the intercession of Saint Joseph, that You grant that we be true and sincere Catholics, professing without error the Catholic faith; that we live without fear a life worthy of the faith we profess, and that our enemies never be able to terrify us with persecutions, nor seduce us with ruses, nor separate us from the only and true Catholic religion.

FINAL PRAYER FOR ALL NINE DAYS

O custodian and father of Virgins, Saint Joseph, to whose faithful custody and care were entrusted the very same innocense of Christ Jesus and the Virgin of Virgins Mary; for these two most beloved Jesus and Mary, I plead and supplicate to You that You grant that, preserving me from all impurity, we always serve Jesus and Mary most chastefully with a clean soul, a pure heart and a chaste body. Amen.

Jesus, Joseph and Mary, I give you my heart and my soul.

Jesus, Joseph and Mary, assist me in my last agony.

Jesus, Joseph and Mary, with You, may my soul rest in peace.

Pray one Our Father, Hail Mary and Gloria.

V. Saint Joseph, plead for us.
R. So that we may make ourselves worthy of reaching the promises of Jesus Christ.

Prayer. O God, who with ineffable providence deigned to choose the blessed Joseph as the Spouse of Your Most Holy Mother; grant that, as we venerate him as protector on earth, we may deserve to have him as our protector in the Heavens. O God, who lives and reigns for ever and ever. Amen.

OUR FATHER

Our Father, Who Art In Heaven
Hallowed Be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come,
Thy Will be done
On earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
Liberate us from all temptation[*]
And deliver us from all evil. Amen

[*] Liberate us is in keeping with the original Latin text.
       God usually does not "lead us" to temptation
       (unless we are tested),
       but gives us the grace to overcome and/or resist it
X
HAIL MARY

Hail Mary, full of grace
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art though among women,
And blessed is the fruit
Of thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mary of God
Pray for us sinners
Now, and in the hour
Of our death. Amen

X
APOSTLE'S CREED

I believe in God, the Father Almighty Creator of Heaven and earth;
And in Jesus Christ, His Only Son, our Lord;
Who was conceived by the
[work and grace of the] Holy Ghost,[*]
Born of the Virgin Mary,
Suffered under Pontius Pilate,
Was crucified, died and was buried.
He descended into the Dead.[**]
On the third day, He rose again;
He ascended into Heaven,
And sits at the right hand of God,
the Father Almighty.
From thence he shall come to judge
the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost,[*]
The Holy Catholic Church,
The communion of saints,
The forgiveness of sins.
The resurrection of the body,
And life everlasting. Amen

[*] Holy Ghost: may be substituted with the current Holy Spirit.
[**] the Dead: "inferi", the underworld or the dead in Latin.
X
GLORIA

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Ghost[*],
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen

[*] Holy Ghost: may be substituted with the current Holy Spirit.
X
DE PROFUNDIS

Out of the depths I have cried to Thee, O Lord:
Lord, hear my voice.
Let Thine ears be attentive
to the voice of my supplication.

If thou, O Lord, wilt mark iniquities:
Lord, who shall abide it.
For with Thee there is merciful forgiveness:
and because of Thy law,
I have waited for Thee, O Lord.

My soul hath waited on His word:
my soul hath hoped in the Lord.
From the morning-watch even until night,
let Israel hope in the Lord.

For with the Lord there is mercy:
and with Him plenteous redemption.
And He shall redeem Israel
from all her iniquities.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Ghost[*],
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen

[*] Holy Ghost: may be substituted with the current Holy Spirit.

"Requiem aeternam" (Eternal Rest) three times a day.
Pope Leo XIII, February 3, 1888)

Let us pray:
O God, the Creator and Redeemer of all
the faithful, we beseech Thee to grant
to the souls of Thy servants the remission
of their sins, so that by our prayers
they may obtain pardon for which they long.
O Lord, who lives and reigns,
world without end. Amen

May they rest in peace. Amen

PADRE NUESTRO

Padre Nuestro,
que estas en los Cielos
Santificado sea Tu Nombre;
Venga a nosotros tu Reino;
Hágase Tu Voluntad
en la tierra como en el cielo.
Danos hoy nuestro pan de cada día;
Perdona nuestras ofensas,
Como también nosotros
perdonamos a los que nos ofenden,
No nos dejes caer en la tentación,
y líbranos del mal. Amén

AVE MARÍA

Dios te salve, María,
llena eres de gracia;
El Señor es Contigo;
Bendita Tú eres
entre todas las mujeres,
Y bendito es el fruto
De tu vientre, Jesús.

Santa María,
Madre de Dios,
Ruega por nosotros
pecadores,
Ahora y en la hora
De nuestra muerte.

CREDO

Creo en Dios, Padre Todopoderoso,
Creador del cielo y de la tierra.
Creo en Jesucristo,
Su único Hijo, Nuestro Señor,
Que fue concebido por obra
y gracia del Espíritu Santo,
Nació de la Santa María Virgen;

escucha mi voz;
Estén Tus oidos atentos
a la voz de mi súplica.

Si llevas cuenta de los delitos, Señor,
¿quién podrá resistir?
Pero de ti procede el perdón,
y así infundes respeto.
Mi alma espera en el Señor.

Espera en su palabra;
mi alma aguarda al Señor,
más que el centinela la aurora.
Aguarda Israel al Señor.

Como el centinela la aurora;
porque del Señor viene la misericordia.
la redención copiosa;
y Él redimirá a Israel de todos sus delitos.

Gloria al Padre, al Hijo y al
Espíritu Santo,
como es desde el principio,
es ahora y será por los siglos de los siglos.
Amén
