DAY THREE
Make the sign of the Holy Cross ...

FROM THE HOLY GOSPEL ACCORDING TO SAINT LUKE 24, 28-31

... "And they drew nigh to the town, whither they were going: and He made as though He would go farther. But they constrained Him, saying: Stay with us, because it is towards evening, and the day is now far spent. And He went in with them. And it came to pass, whilst He was at table with them, He took bread, and blessed, and brake, and gave to them. And their eyes were opened, and they knew Him: and He vanished out of their sight."

REFLECTION

Night is the image of death, the end of everything. Death is solitude. The night gives a feeling of inner loneliness. The company at night has the meaning of the shelter and, symbolically, is the sign of communion in the moment of solitude. Stay with us. It’s getting late ... And Jesus accepts.

This is the first supper of Heavenly Jesus. It is celebrated after the Last supper of the earthly Jesus. To renew the perennial dinner of Jesus-Eucharist. Man’s destiny is the dinner, that is, of an intimate communion with God and with all the children of God.

The text states: "He took bread and pronounced the prayer of blessing; He broke it and began to distribute it." These are the identical gestures and the same words of the event of the Institution of the Eucharist, Also called "breaking bread".

It is for this fact that the community of believers, the Church, forms one body. That is, the cause of this being a single body is taught by Saint Paul when he says: "The bread that we eat is communion with the Body of Christ. It is one bread and that is why we form one body, even if we are many."

Emmaus goes through a slow process of recognition. There are Two main phases. In the first phase the Teacher instructs us on the profound meaning of the Word. And then, the Master’s gesture is made in the renewal of the Great Word: Dinner.

Jesus is recognized as the Risen Lord, living and present in the community, where each community is on the way to become familiar with the Word, and then, it is put to the table for the Renewal of the Word of the Supper itself.

Both phases are faith journeys. But, as a close after the two phases, we must interpose - as in Emmaus - the gesture of generosity, courtesy, hospitality and Service.

To be a diner of the Risen Jesus, it is necessary to imitate Him in the gesture of the washing of the feet, which is to help a brother to purify his humanity, to feel more like a true man, to discover himself loved by God and thus to recover from his - and also your - fatigue.

To fully recognize Jesus, it is necessary to immerse one's self in the path of Emmaus. Then we will also recognize Him when the mind is fed with the Word and the hands move for service. The Word is comprehending, serving one's brother; it is then to dine in the banquet ...

LITANIES TO JESUS CHRIST

Lord have mercy,
   Lord have mercy.
Christ have mercy,
   Christ have mercy.
Lord have mercy,
   Lord have mercy.
Jesus, Sun, shining our pilgrimage,
   Have mercy on us.
Jesus, Who did not come to be served, but to serve,
   Have mercy on us.
Jesus, the Lamb of God, victorious,
   Have mercy on us.
Jesus, Bread for the life of the world,
   Have mercy on us.
Jesus, Teacher who has words of eternal life,
   Have mercy on us.
Jesus, a Host to reach God with all confidence,
   Have mercy on us.
Jesus, our Feast, our Passover,
   Have mercy on us.
Christ hear us,
   Christ hear us.
Christ listen to us,
   Christ graciously hear us.

Let us pray
Lord Jesus, increase our faith. Through You and the Holy Spirit You communicate to us, to reach the Father to say our yes attached to Yours. With You we can thus say: "Our Father".

Following You, "Road, Truth and Life", we want to penetrate the apparent "silence" and absence" of God, tearing the cloud of the Tabor, to hear the voice of the Father who says: "This is My Beloved Son, In whom I am pleased: Listen to Him."

With this FAITH, made of contemplative listening, we will know how to illuminate our personal situations, as well; such as the various sectors of family and social life. You are our Hope, our Peace, our Mediator, Brother and Friend. Amen.

OUR FATHER

Our Father, Who Art In Heaven
Hallowed Be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come,
Thy Will be done
On earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
Liberate us from all temptation[*]
And deliver us from all evil. Amen

[*] Liberate us is in keeping with the original Latin text.
       God usually does not "lead us" to temptation
       (unless we are tested),
       but gives us the grace to overcome and/or resist it

HAIL MARY

Hail Mary, full of grace
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art though among women,
And blessed is the fruit
Of thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mary of God
Pray for us sinners
Now, and in the hour
Of our death. Amen

APOSTLE'S CREED

I believe in God, the Father Almighty Creator of Heaven and earth;
And in Jesus Christ, His Only Son, our Lord;
Who was conceived by the
[work and grace of the] Holy Ghost,[*]
Born of the Virgin Mary,
Suffered under Pontius Pilate,
Was crucified, died and was buried.
He descended into the Dead.[**]
On the third day, He rose again;
He ascended into Heaven,
And sits at the right hand of God,
the Father Almighty.
From thence he shall come to judge
the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost,[*]
The Holy Catholic Church,
The communion of saints,
The forgiveness of sins.
The resurrection of the body,
And life everlasting. Amen

[*] Holy Ghost: may be substituted with the current Holy Spirit.
[**] the Dead: "inferi", the underworld or the dead in Latin.

GLORIA

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Ghost[*],
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen

DE PROFUNDIS

Out of the depths I have cried to Thee, O Lord:
Lord, hear my voice.
Let Thine ears be attentive
to the voice of my supplication.

If thou, O Lord, wilt mark iniquities:
Lord, who shall abide it.
For with Thee there is merciful forgiveness:
and because of Thy law,
I have waited for Thee, O Lord.

My soul hath waited on His word:
my soul hath hoped in the Lord.
From the morning-watch even until night,
let Israel hope in the Lord.

For with the Lord there is mercy:
and with Him plenteous redemption.
And He shall redeem Israel
from all her iniquities.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Ghost[*],
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen

[*] Holy Ghost: may be substituted with the current Holy Spirit.

Pope Leo XIII, February 3, 1888)

Let us pray:
O God, the Creator and Redeemer of all
the faithful, we beseech Thee to grant
to the souls of Thy servants the remission
of their sins, so that by our prayers
they may obtain pardon for which they long.
O Lord, who lives and reigns,
world without end. Amen

May they rest in peace. Amen

PADRE NUESTRO

Padre Nuestro,
que estas en los Cielos
Santificado sea Tu Nombre;
Venga a nosotros tu Reino;
Hágase Tu Voluntad
en la tierra como en el cielo.
Danos hoy nuestro pan de cada día;
Perdona nuestras ofensas,
Como también nosotros
perdonamos a los que nos ofenden,
No nos dejes caer en la tentación,
y líbranos del mal. Amén

AVE MARÍA

Dios te salve, María,
llena eres de gracia;
El Señor es Contigo;
Bendita Tú eres
entre todas las mujeres,
Y bendito es el fruto
De tu vientre, Jesús.

Santa María,
Madre de Dios,
Ruega por nosotros
pecadores,
Ahora y en la hora
De nuestra muerte.

CREDO

Creo en Dios, Padre Todopoderoso,
Creador del cielo y de la tierra.
Creo en Jesucristo,
Su único Hijo, Nuestro Señor,
Que fue concebido por obra
y gracia del Espíritu Santo,
Nació de la Santa María Virgen;

escucha mi voz;
Estén Tus oidos atentos
a la voz de mi súplica.

Si llevas cuenta de los delitos, Señor,
¿quién podrá resistir?
Pero de ti procede el perdón,
y así infundes respeto.
Mi alma espera en el Señor.

Espera en su palabra;
mi alma aguarda al Señor,
más que el centinela la aurora.
Aguarda Israel al Señor.

Como el centinela la aurora;
porque del Señor viene la misericordia.
la redención copiosa;
y Él redimirá a Israel de todos sus delitos.

Gloria al Padre, al Hijo y al
Espíritu Santo,
como es desde el principio,
es ahora y será por los siglos de los siglos.
Amén
