My spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour,
because he hath seen with goodness the smallness of his servant;
for behold from henceforth all generations shall
call me joyful,
because the All powerful has made in me great things:
His Name is Holy!
His mercy extends from generation to generation
over those who fear Him.
He has showed might in his arm:
He hath scattered the powerful in the conceit of their heart.
He hath put down the mighty from their seat,
and hath exalted the humble.
He hath filled the hungry with good things;
and the rich he hath sent away empty.
Saint Luke 1: 47-50
"I shall spend every moment loving.
One who loves does not notice her
trials; or perhaps more accurately,
she is able to love them."
*Saint Bernadette
The Evangelium is Announced to the Poor
"The virgin who in her canticle affirmed that God, her
Savior 'beheld with goodness the smallness of her
servant' (Luke 1: 47-48), has been pleased in looking
for someone who would belong, like Her, to the most plain
village, that neither attracts any attention and is taken
into account.
Bernadette was always for remaining hidden in the world.
Once the numerous interrogatories were completed, where with
Saintly simplicity she disconcerted to most learned, she
wanted to live in the truth of routine daily life with the
realism of a peasant and the robust faith that took her to
the overcoming of enormous difficulties and trials.
Her vocation of remaining hidden and a life offered for
neighbour and the convent of the Daughters of Charity, was
expressed best with these words: "I love the poor very much. I
like to take care of the sick: I will stay with the sisters of
Nevers. They have given me a sick person to take care of; when I
find myself well, nobody takes care of him besides me."
God allowed that she be seen surrounded by incomprehension,
since not even her (mother) superior believed in her sufferings
nor in the truth of the apparitions.
A message of pure Gospel (Evangelium or Evangelization)
The messages of the Virgin of Lourdes, resonated in the middle
of a century that saw a wave of secularization in the culture
and society, in a country (France) that was at the vanguard of
the project of expulsing God from all public life.
Through a humble peasant girl, the Lord has taught us the path of
return. By the maternal lips of Mary, evangelical poverty and
penitence, the prayer of the Holy Rosary is our ascension into
the mysteries of our salvation, the plenitude of love for God
above all and love for our neighbour, as for ourselves."
Excerpt from Homily of Monsegnor Anthono Marino,
Bishop of Mar del Plata (Argentina), in the Solemnity of
Our Lady of Lourdes, 75th anniversary of the Grotto of
Lourdes, (Mar Del Plata, February 11, 2014)
Say this Novena for nine days, or as a perpetual novena
Dear Saint Bernadette, chosen by Almighty God as a channel of His
Graces and Blessings, and through your humble obedience to the
requests of Our Blessed Mother, Mary, you gained for us the
Miraculous waters of Spiritual and physical healing.
We implore you to listen to our pleading prayers that we may
be healed of our Spiritual and physical imperfections.
Place our petitions in the Hands of our Holy Mother, Mary, so
that She may place them at the feet of Her beloved Son, Our Lord
and Saviour Jesus Christ, that He may look on us with mercy and
compassion:
(mention your petition)
Help, O dear Saint Bernadette to follow your example, so that
irrespective of our own pain and suffering we may always be
mindful of the needs of others, especially those whose
sufferings are greater than ours.
As we await the Mercy of God, remind us to offer up our pain
and suffering for the conversion of sinners, and in reparation
for the sins and blasphemies of mankind.
Pray Saint Bernadette, that like you, we may always be
obedient to the will of Our Heavenly Father, and that
through our prayers and humility we may bring consolation
to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart
of Mary that have been so grievously wounded by our sins.
Amen
Holy Saint Bernadette of Lourdes, pray for us.
Pray one Decade of the
Holy Rosary
"O Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to Thee."
(Recite three times)
O God, protector and lover of the humble, You bestowed
on your handmaid, Bernadette, the favor of
the vision of
Our Lady, the Immaculate Virgin Mary, and of speech with Her.
Grant that we may deserve to behold You in Heaven.
Saint Bernadette through your intercession give me the grace
of praying in the occasions of sin. Grant me a holy recollection,
the grace of being aware of Mary’s holy presence, and the virtue
of silence.
Grant me from God the holy virtue of spiritual and bodily
purity; as well as purity of conscience through humble,
frequent, and sincere confession, for the greater glory of
God. Obtain for me a heroic faith along with a loving-filled
confidence in the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus and the
Immaculate Heart of Mary.
Intercede for me that I, too, may walk the simple paths
of faith. Help me to imitate your example, at our
heavenly Queen’s request, by saying the Rosary daily, praying for the conversion of souls
and by doing penance for sinners.
God our Father, you give joy to the world by the resurrection
of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. Through the prayers of
His Mother, the Virgin Mary, bring us to the happiness of
eternal life. We ask this through Saint Bernadette and with
the intercession of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the
Immaculate Heart of Mary. Amen
Prayer to the Immaculate Virgin of Lourdes
by Pope John Paul II
Under your protection we seek
refuge, Immaculate Virgin of
Lourdes, who present yourself to
us as the perfect model of creation
according to God’s original plan. To
you we entrust the sick, the elderly,
the lonely: soothe their pain, dry
their tears and obtain for each one
the strength they need to do God’s will.
May you support those who toil every
day to alleviate the sufferings of their
brethren! And help us all to grow in the
knowledge of Christ, who by his death and
Resurrection defeated the powers of evil and death. Amen
Our Lady of Lourdes, pray for us
