Let Us Pray

O God, Who has honored this world by the birth of Saint John the Baptist, grant that Thy faithful people may rejoice in the way of eternal salvation, through Jesus Christ Our Lord. Amen
Saint John The Baptist, the Last of the Prophets, and the Precursor of Christ was sanctified in the womb of his mother, Saint Elizabeth; he was a kinsman of Jesus Christ and spent his youth and early manhood until age 30 in prayer and penance in the desert, then he preached penance and Baptism in preparation for the coming of the Redeemer, finally Baptizing Our Lord Himself and proclaiming Him "the Lamb of God." Saint John the Baptist was beheaded by order of Herod Antipas while enduring imprisonment by the same ruler for denouncing Herodís adulterous and incestuous marriage to his half-brotherís wife.
