Our Lady of Lourdes in Grotto, Lourdes, France https://eastbourneordinariate.org

Opening Prayer

Based on excerpts from the original traditional ceremonies in Latin and French at Lourdes, France

Dear Lady of Lourdes--Health of the Sick--hear and answer our plaintive cries unto thee. Do thou, O Mary, our Queen and our Mother, intercede for us with thy Divine Son; that, as He healed the lame, the blind, and those afflicted with so many types of illness, He will now heal those present of their infirmities, as they receive the Blessing of the Sick.

Just as Our Lord walked among the multitudes of Galilee and Judea, healing and blessing them, so now He walks among us in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament. Should it be to our spiritual good, ask thy Divine Son, dearest Mother, to heal us of those maladies which afflict us.

Yet, if it should be better for us to suffer in a spirit of loving reparation for our sins and those of others who so offend His Most Sacred Heart, then we do not ask to be cured, but rather to be granted the grace of suffering with silent resignation.

Should our physical cure be the occasion of our living in such a way as to further offend Thy Divine Son, or cause sorrow to thy Immaculate Heart, then we most fervently desire NOT to be physically cured; but rather, O dearest Mother, obtain for us the grace to continue to bear our sufferings courageously and joyfully, remembering that IN THE CROSS IS OUR SALVATION.

Our request for physical healing is ONLY that we might better fulfill our daily duties and more perfectly serve Our Lord in all things.

Far more important than obtaining a physical cure, O Virgin Immaculate, we beg of thee to ask our Eucharistic King to grant to all of us a SPIRITUAL CURE -- the healing of our many infirmities of soul, by which we so offend His goodness and love!

Finally, dear Mother of Mercy, do thou obtain for us, in this as in all things, the grace to embrace the Adorable WILL OF GOD. Amen

Act of Contrition

The Act of Contrition is now fervently and slowly prayed by all.

O my God, I am heartly sorry for having offended Thee.

And I detest all my sins because I dread the loss of Heaven and the pains of hell.

But most of all because they offend Thee, my God, Who art all good and deserving of all my love.

I firmly resolve with the help of Thy Divine grace to sin no more, and to avoid the ocassions of sin.Amen

Hymn: Ave of Our Lady of Lourdes

Immaculate Mary, our hearts are on fire!
That title, so wondrous, fills all our desire!

Ave, Ave, Ave Maria! Ave, Ave, Ave Maria!

In grief and temptation, in joy and in pain,
We’ll seek thee, our Mother, nor seek thee in vain.

Ave, Ave, Ave Maria! Ave, Ave, Ave Maria!

For poor, sick, afflicted, thy mercy we crave.
And comfort the dying, thou light of the grave.

Ave, Ave, Ave Maria! Ave, Ave, Ave Maria!

We pray, dearest Mother, for those who now stray,
From Jesus and Mary on heresy’s way.

Ave, Ave, Ave Maria! Ave, Ave, Ave Maria!

At death’s solemn moment, O Mother be nigh.
As children of Mary, please teach us how to die.

Ave, Ave, Ave Maria! Ave, Ave, Ave Maria!

To the lower right we see the spring water which came out of the rock at the 9th Apparition on February 25th, 1858 and provides the famous "Lourdes Water". To the left is a vision of the basilica church which was to be built over the grotto. On March 2nd, the 13th Apparition, Our Lady told Bernadette: "Go and tell the priests that people should come here in procession and that a chapel should be built here."

OUR FATHER

Our Father, Who Art In Heaven
Hallowed Be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come,
Thy Will be done
On earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
Liberate us from all temptation[*]
And deliver us from all evil. Amen

[*] Liberate us is in keeping with the original Latin text.
       God usually does not "lead us" to temptation
       (unless we are tested),
       but gives us the grace to overcome and/or resist it

HAIL MARY

Hail Mary, full of grace
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art though among women,
And blessed is the fruit
Of thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mary of God
Pray for us sinners
Now, and in the hour
Of our death. Amen

APOSTLE'S CREED
I believe in God, the Father Almighty
Creator of Heaven and earth;
And in Jesus Christ, His Only Son, our Lord;
Who was conceived by the
[work and grace of the] Holy Ghost,[*]
Born of the Virgin Mary,
Suffered under Pontius Pilate,
Was crucified, died and was buried.
He descended into the Dead.[**]
On the third day, He rose again;
He ascended into Heaven,
And sits at the right hand of God,
the Father Almighty.
From thence he shall come to judge
the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost,[*]
The Holy Catholic Church,
The communion of saints,
The forgiveness of sins.
The resurrection of the body,
And life everlasting. Amen

[*] Holy Ghost: may be substituted with the current Holy Spirit.
[**] the Dead: "inferi", the underworld or the dead in Latin.

GLORIA

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,

DE PROFUNDIS

Out of the depths I have cried to Thee, O Lord:
Lord, hear my voice.
Let Thine ears be attentive
to the voice of my supplication.

If thou, O Lord, wilt mark iniquities:
Lord, who shall abide it.
For with Thee there is merciful forgiveness:
and because of Thy law,
I have waited for Thee, O Lord.

My soul hath waited on His word:
my soul hath hoped in the Lord.
From the morning-watch even until night,
let Israel hope in the Lord.

For with the Lord there is mercy:
and with Him plenteous redemption.
And He shall redeem Israel
from all her iniquities.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Ghost[*],
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen

PADRE NUESTRO

Padre Nuestro,
que estas en los Cielos
Santificado sea Tu Nombre;
Venga a nosotros tu Reino;
Hágase Tu Voluntad
en la tierra como en el cielo.
Danos hoy nuestro pan de cada día;
Perdona nuestras ofensas,
Como también nosotros
perdonamos a los que nos ofenden,
No nos dejes caer en la tentación,
y líbranos del mal. Amén

CREDO
Creo en Dios, Padre Todopoderoso,
Creador del cielo y de la tierra.
Creo en Jesucristo,
Su único Hijo, Nuestro Señor,
Que fue concebido por obra
y gracia del Espíritu Santo,
Nació de la Santa María Virgen;

escucha mi voz;
Estén Tus oidos atentos
a la voz de mi súplica.

Si llevas cuenta de los delitos, Señor,
¿quién podrá resistir?
Pero de ti procede el perdón,
y así infundes respeto.
Mi alma espera en el Señor.

Espera en su palabra;
mi alma aguarda al Señor,
más que el centinela la aurora.
Aguarda Israel al Señor.

Como el centinela la aurora;
porque del Señor viene la misericordia.
la redención copiosa;
y Él redimirá a Israel de todos sus delitos.

Gloria al Padre, al Hijo y al
Espíritu Santo,
como es desde el principio,
es ahora y será por los siglos de los siglos.
