The Garden of Eden before the Fall of Man by Jan Brueghel the Elder; (b.1568 - d.1625); 1616; www.wga.hu

Prayer in Union with Creation

Father, we praise you with all your creatures.
They came forth from your all-powerful hand;
they are yours,
and they are full of your presence and your tender love.
Praise be to you!

Son of God, Jesus,
for you all things were created.
You formed yourself in the maternal womb of Mary,
you became part of this earth,
and you saw this world with human eyes.
Today you are alive in every creature
with your glory as the arisen one.
Praise be to you!

Holy Spirit, by your light
you guide this world towards the love of the Father
and accompany the creation in its cries,
you live also in our hearts
so as to inspire us to do what is good.
Praise be to you!

One and Triune Lord,
precious community of infinite love,
teach us to contemplate you
in the beauty of the universe,
where all things speak to us of you.
Awaken our praise and gratitude
for every being that you have created.
Give us the grace to feel us profoundly united
with everything that exists.

God of love,
show us our place in this world
as instruments of your love
for all the creatures of this earth,
for not one of them is forgotten in your sight.
Enlighten those who possess power and money
that they may guard against the sin of indifference,
that they may love the common good, advance the weak,
and care for this world we inhabit.
The poor and the earth are crying out:
O Lord, seize us with your power and light,
to protect all life,
to prepare for a better future,
to make your Kingdom come,
of justice, peace, love and beauty.
Praise be to you!
Amen

Prayer for Our Earth

Omnipotent God.
you who are present in the whole universe
and in the smallest of your creatures.
You, who surrounds with your tenderness all that exists,
Pour out within us the strength of Your Love,
so we may protect life and beauty.
Fill us exceedingly with peace,
that we may live as brothers and sisters,
harming no one.
O God of the poor,
help us to rescue
the abandoned and forgotten of this earth,
who are so very precious in your eyes.
Heal our lives,
so we may be protectors of the world
and not its predators,
so we sow beauty,
and not contamination and destruction.
Touch the hearts
of those who look only for their own self-benefit
at the expense of the poor and the earth.
Teach us to discover the value of each thing,
to contemplate with admiration,
to recognize that we are profoundly united
with all creatures,
in our path towards Your Infinite Light.
We thank You for being with us each day.
Encourage us, please, in our fight
in our struggle for justice, love and peace.
Amen

As Christians we want to offer our contribution to overcome the ecological crisis which humanity is experiencing. To do this, we must before anything else bring forth from our own rich spiritual patrimony the deepest motivations that nurture the passion for for the care of creation, remembering always that, for the believers in Jesus Christ, the Word of God made man for us, "spirituality is not disconnected from the body itself nor from nature or from the reality of the world, but instead lives in and with them, in communion with all that surrounds us" (Laudato Si’, 216). The ecological crisis thus calls us to a profound spiritual conversion: Christians are called to "an ecological conversion", which implies allowing all the encounters we have with Jesus Christ, in our relations with the world that surrounds us, to take place (ibid., 217). In fact, "living the vocation to be protectors of God’s Opus is an essential part of a virtuous existence; it does not consist of something that is optional or a secondary aspect of Christian experience" (ibid).

OUR FATHER

Our Father, Who Art In Heaven
Hallowed Be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come,
Thy Will be done
On earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
Liberate us from all temptation[*]
And deliver us from all evil. Amen

[*] Liberate us is in keeping with the original Latin text.
       God usually does not "lead us" to temptation
       (unless we are tested),
       but gives us the grace to overcome and/or resist it

HAIL MARY

Hail Mary, full of grace
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art though among women,
And blessed is the fruit
Of thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mary of God
Pray for us sinners
Now, and in the hour
Of our death. Amen

APOSTLE'S CREED
I believe in God, the Father Almighty
Creator of Heaven and earth;
And in Jesus Christ, His Only Son, our Lord;
Who was conceived by the
[work and grace of the] Holy Ghost,[*]
Born of the Virgin Mary,
Suffered under Pontius Pilate,
Was crucified, died and was buried.
He descended into the Dead.[**]
On the third day, He rose again;
He ascended into Heaven,
And sits at the right hand of God,
the Father Almighty.
From thence he shall come to judge
the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost,[*]
The Holy Catholic Church,
The communion of saints,
The forgiveness of sins.
The resurrection of the body,
And life everlasting. Amen

[*] Holy Ghost: may be substituted with the current Holy Spirit.
[**] the Dead: "inferi", the underworld or the dead in Latin.

DE PROFUNDIS

Out of the depths I have cried to Thee, O Lord:
Lord, hear my voice.
Let Thine ears be attentive
to the voice of my supplication.

If thou, O Lord, wilt mark iniquities:
Lord, who shall abide it.
For with Thee there is merciful forgiveness:
and because of Thy law,
I have waited for Thee, O Lord.

My soul hath waited on His word:
my soul hath hoped in the Lord.
From the morning-watch even until night,
let Israel hope in the Lord.

For with the Lord there is mercy:
and with Him plenteous redemption.
And He shall redeem Israel
from all her iniquities.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Ghost[*],
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen

[*] Holy Ghost: may be substituted with the current Holy Spirit.

Pope Leo XIII, February 3, 1888)

Let us pray:
O God, the Creator and Redeemer of all
the faithful, we beseech Thee to grant
to the souls of Thy servants the remission
of their sins, so that by our prayers
they may obtain pardon for which they long.
O Lord, who lives and reigns,
world without end. Amen

PADRE NUESTRO

Padre Nuestro,
que estas en los Cielos
Santificado sea Tu Nombre;
Venga a nosotros tu Reino;
Hágase Tu Voluntad
en la tierra como en el cielo.
Danos hoy nuestro pan de cada día;
Perdona nuestras ofensas,
Como también nosotros
perdonamos a los que nos ofenden,
No nos dejes caer en la tentación,
y líbranos del mal. Amén

AVE MARÍA

Dios te salve, María,
llena eres de gracia;
El Señor es Contigo;
Bendita Tú eres
entre todas las mujeres,
Y bendito es el fruto
De tu vientre, Jesús.

Santa María,
Madre de Dios,
Ruega por nosotros
pecadores,
Ahora y en la hora
De nuestra muerte.
Amén

CREDO
Creo en Dios, Padre Todopoderoso,
Creador del cielo y de la tierra.
Creo en Jesucristo,
Su único Hijo, Nuestro Señor,
Que fue concebido por obra
y gracia del Espíritu Santo,
Nació de la Santa María Virgen;

escucha mi voz;
Estén Tus oidos atentos
a la voz de mi súplica.

Si llevas cuenta de los delitos, Señor,
¿quién podrá resistir?
Pero de ti procede el perdón,
y así infundes respeto.
Mi alma espera en el Señor.

Espera en su palabra;
mi alma aguarda al Señor,
más que el centinela la aurora.
Aguarda Israel al Señor.

Como el centinela la aurora;
porque del Señor viene la misericordia.
la redención copiosa;
y Él redimirá a Israel de todos sus delitos.

Gloria al Padre, al Hijo y al
Espíritu Santo,
como es desde el principio,
es ahora y será por los siglos de los siglos.
Amén
