"Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the
Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe
all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am
with you always, until the end of the age."

What is needed is a calm, clear-sighted and truthful vision of
things, a vision enlivened by divine mercy and capable of
freeing peopleís minds and of inspiring in everyone a
renewed willingness, precisely with a view to proclaiming the
Gospel to the men and women of every people and nation.
The Catholic Church embraces with hope the commitment to
ecumenism as a duty of the Christian conscience enlightened
by faith and guided by love. Here too we can apply the words
of Saint Paul to the first Christians of Rome: "Godís love has
been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit"; thus our
"hope does not disappoint us" (Rom 5:5). This is the hope of
Christian unity, which has its divine source in the Trinitarian
unity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
I am reminded of the words of Saint Cyprianís commentary
on the Lordís Prayer, the prayer of every Christian: "God does
not accept the sacrifice of a sower of disunion, but commands
that he depart from the altar so that he may first be reconciled
with his brother. For God can be appeased only by prayers
that make peace. To God, the better offering is peace,
brotherly concord and a people made one in the unity of the
Father, Son and Holy Spirit".
Mend your ways, encourage one another, live in harmony,
and the God of love and peace will be with you ... The grace
of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the
fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all"
(2 Cor 13:11,13).
