Have the moderation and needed sobriety to be able to pray. Above all, love each other deeply as love covers all sins. Practice hospitality without complaining. Put to good service for others the gifts you have received, as good administrators of the multifaceted graces of God. Whoever has received the gift of the word, let that person teach it as the Word of God. Whoever exercises a ministry, let that person do so as someone who receives that power from God, so that God may be glorified in all things, by Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power, for ever and ever! Amen
1 Peter 4:7b-11
BEHOLD, A GREAT PRIEST, who, in his days, pleased God, and was found just; and in the time of wrath was made a reconciliation. There was not found one like him that kept the law of the Most High. Therefore with an oath the Lord made him to increase among his people. He gave him the blessing of all nations, and confirmed His covenant upon his head. He acknowledged him in His blessings; He preserved for him His mercy; and he found grace before the eyes of the Lord. He glorified him in the sight of kings, and gave him a crown of glory. He established with him an everlasting covenant, and gave him a great priesthood, and made him blessed in glory. To execute the office of the priesthood, and to have praise in His name, and to offer Him a worthy incense for an odor of sweetness.
Ecclesiasticus 44:17, 20, 22, 27; 45:3, 8, 20
From The Confession
of Saint Patrick
The autobiographical confession
was written by Patrick himself,
in Latin, around the year 450
14. Thus, in the measure of my faith in the Trinity, it is advantageous for me to properly discern and proceed without holding back when in danger, making it known what I have learned, having acquired the gift of God and His eternal consolation, confidently and without fear spreading everywhere the name of God so that even, after my death, I may leave an inheritance to my brothers and my children, whom I baptized in the Lord: so many thousands of men.
15. And I was not worthy, nor did I deserve that the Lord should grant his humble servant this: that after so many hardships and burdens, after my captivity, after many years, he would give me so many graces before these people. In another time, in my youth, I neither hoped for nor thought such a thing.

16. But after I reached Ireland (each day I pastured flocks and prayed frequently), more and more the love of God and his fear came to me, and my faith increased and my spirit was elevated in such a way that in only one day I got to recite a hundred prayers, and in the night a like number. I remained in the forests and on the mountain, arising before daylight to pray, with snow, in icy coldness, in rain, and I never felt ill or had any slothfulness, because, as I now see, the Spirit was burning in me.
The Prayer of Saint Patrick
(The Complete Breastplate Prayer)
I arise today
Through the means of the powerful force,
The invocation of the Trinity
Through the means of believing in its Three Persons,
Through the means of confessing the Unity
of the Creator of Creation.

I arise today
Through the means of the strength of the birth of Christ and his baptism,
Through the means of the strength of His crucifixion and burial,
Through the means of the strength of His resurrection and ascension,
Through the means of the strength of His descent to judge evil.

I arise today
Through the means of the love of Cherubim,
In obedience of Angels, in Service of Archangels,
In the hope that the resurrection finds recompense,
In prayers of Patriarchs, in words of Prophets,
In predicates of Apostles, in innocence of Holy Virgins,
In the works of men of good.

I arise today
Through the means of the power of Heaven:
Light of the sun,
Splendor of fire,
Speed of lighting,
Swiftness of wind,
Depth of the seas,
Stability of the earth,
Firmness of rock.

I arise today
Through the means of the strength of God that directs me:
Power of God that sustains me,
Wisdom of God that guides me,
Eye of God that watches over me,
Ear of God that hears me,
Word of God that speaks for me,
Hand of God that guards me,
Path of God laid before me,
Shield of God that protects me,
Legions of God to save me,
From the traps of the devil,
From temptations of vices,
From anyone that wishes me ill,
Far and near,
Alone or in multitude.

I invoke this day all these powers between me and the evil one,
Against ruthless powers that oppose my body and soul,
Against incantations of false prophets,
Against the dark laws of pagans,
Against the false laws of heretics,
Against the works and fetishes of idolatry,
Against enchantments of witches, forgers and sorcerers,
Against any corruptive knowledge of body and soul.

Christ shield me today
Against filters and poisons, against burnings,
Against suffocation, against wounds,
In such a manner that I may receive abundant recompense.

Christ with me,
Christ before me,
Christ behind me,
Christ in me,
Christ beneath me,
Christ above me,
Christ at my right,
Christ at my left,
Christ when resting,
Christ when arising,
Christ in the heart of all those who think of me,
Christ in the mouth of all those who speak of me,
Christ in each eye that looks at me,
Christ in each ear that listens to me.

I arise today
Through the powerful force,
The Invocation of the Trinity,
Through the means of believing in its Three Persons,
Through the means of confessing the Unity,
of the Creator of Creation. Amen
